Easy To Learn Lacrosse Stick Tricks

The Indian Pickup

Here’s a fun one to learn. With the ball on the ground, hit the ball with one side of the lacrosse head, while flipping your stick over. Then catch the ball. Don’t try using this one in a game.

Baton Twirl

Here’s one of the easiest stick tricks. Hold the ball in the crosse and spin the stick while you throw it in the air. When the stick comes down, try to catch it with one hand, with the ball still in the head.

Sidewall Balance

Another easy one. Using two hands toss the ball out of your pocket and make it balance on the sidewall of your stick. You can do many variations of this – use one hand, two hands, flip the ball from sidewall to sidewall.

Sidewall Juggle

This one’s just like the sidewall balance except you keep hitting the ball on the sides of the head over and over. Try to set a personal record for hits without dropping it.

The Upside-down Sidewall Spin

Here’s how you do this one - balance the ball on your sidewall, then put your right hand on the butt of the stick. Your right hand should have palms facing up, and your thumb points away from the head. Raise your hand and spin in a circle. As you spin, centrifugal force will keep the ball on the sidewall.

Lacrosse Tricks

Behind the Back

The behind the back shot can be useful in a game. This is the shot you can use if you don’t have a good angle to shoot. Hold the stick in your dominant hand and turn so that your opposite shoulder is pointing toward the net. Your other hand should be spread about 12 inches away.

Pull the stick towards your opposite shoulder and allow it to hit your arm. This will force the ball out of the pocket. You can adjust your body to throw better once you are used to the shot. I’ve seen this shot used successfully in several games. It’s tricky.

Around the World

Similar to the behind the back trick shot, around the world is more difficult. Stand with your dominant foot and shoulder facing the goal. With the stick in your dominant hand, start the throwing motion. Instead of releasing the ball, bring it across the front of your body and let the upper part of the stick hit your left shoulder and spring the ball out of the pocket.
